The Weekly Lostrocity: "Doctor Who" Disco

By and large, the English people adore two things that only small clusters of folks in the U.S. enjoy: Doctor Who and novelty songs. The former has been airing off and on since 1963, and as for the latter, the Bob the Builder theme song to went to #1 in England.

While the current incarnation of Doctor Who is critically-acclaimed and fairly accessible, the series arguably peaked in popularity and cultural relevance in the late ’70s, when it starred Tom Baker (the guy with the scarf), and when it was really dense, low-budget, frightening, and weird. Being a pop culture icon brings novelty songs with it, as evidenced by this, a disco remake of the Doctor Who theme song by some anonymous studio act called Mankind, because disco was also a big thing at the time. Creepy sci-fi, extended dance mixes, robot voices: I can’t decide if this is the geekiest thing ever or the creepiest thing ever.
